Editors from various magazines and book publishers will be available for 15-minute appointments, as well as informal mealtime conversations throughout the conference.
You can request up to three individual appointments to discuss your writing projects
and their current editorial needs. Sign-ups for appointments with editors will be
Thursday evening after the general session. (Appointments will take place at the same time as the classes, clinics, and workshops.) We will have agents, magazine editors, and book editors available for appointments. Also, you may sign up for an appointment with a CWG mentor.

The conference offers opportunities to meet with magazine and book editors, agents, and CWG mentors. When your opportunity comes, step up to the table self-assured. Shake the editor's hand firmly, be seated, and introduce yourself (don't expect the editor to read your name tag). Talk briefly about your writing interests or a single project you think might fit the editor's needs. Then stop talking and listen.

Your appointment will go by in a flash. If you do all the talking, you won't receive the benefit of the editor's expertise.

If you don't get to talk one-on-one during an appointment, you can usually sit with an editor during meals. Listen and ask questions, being careful not to monopolize the editor's time. Also, make a point of introducing yourself to other authors and find out about their writing and target readers.

Ask a Mentor
2010 conference

Besides requesting up to three individual appointments with publisher representatives
or literary agents, conferees can also schedule a time to speak with a Christian Writers Guild mentor.

Do you have questions about:

  • the effectiveness of a sample of your writing.

  • how to present your idea to an editor.
  • what type of publisher might be interested in your concept.
  • whether to enroll in one of the Christian Writers Guild "What's Your Story?" courses.

Then schedule time to talk with a CWG mentor who will be available during publisher appointment times to answer your questions.

Find out more about our course.
