Conference Tips

We at the Guild work to ensure your conference is the best it can be. This advice will enhance your experience.

At registration
You’ll receive a notebook that includes your schedule, class and workshop outlines, editor and agent information, and space to take notes.

Your name badge serves as your entry to all meals, sessions, classes, and workshops. If you registered a spouse for the meals-only option, pick up that name badge with yours.

Meeting deadlines is one hallmark of a professional writer. All sessions and meals will begin on time.

Appointments
After the Thursday evening session, you may reserve up to three 15-minute one-on-one meetings with book or magazine editors and/or agents. In addition, you may sign up for an appointment with a Guild mentor or with creativity expert and speech coach McNair Wilson.

For your meetings with editors and agents, you may want to bring article manuscripts, first chapters, or book proposals, and business cards. If you need to make copies, a FedEx/Kinko’s business center is open 24 hours at the hotel.

Meals
Your conference fee includes all meals from breakfast Friday, February 17 through breakfast Sunday, February 19. Dinner is on your own Thursday. Many restaurants are within walking distance.

Dress and weather
Appropriate conference attire is business casual (no jeans).

Daytime temperatures in Denver during February are typically in the 30s or 40s. Because Denver is the Mile-High City, pace yourself and drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration and altitude sickness.
