  1. Develop a plan for your writing through prayer, consultation, and personal reflection.
  2. Join writers groups both locally and nationally for education, marketing, fellowship, and industry connections. Check out the CWG Word Weavers to find or start a group near you.
  3. Read industry blogs, join book clubs, subscribe to writing newsletters and ezines.
  4. Participate in writing loops and bulletin boards to pick up tips and stay abreast of opportunities.
  5. Learn to effectively use social networking.
  6. Get educated/stay educated. Read craft books and take writing courses.
  7. Submit your work for professional critique.
  8. Find a mentor/writing partner/mentee. Always have someone to look up to, someone to share with, and someone to help.
  9. Attend writing conferences to build confidence, grow as a writer, network, and understand the industry.
  10. Share your expertise through articles and social media to build community and trust with your readers.

Periodically assess your plan and whether it’s working. Don’t be afraid to stop doing what’s not working and try something new.
